Review: Tweetie 2 for iPhone

Twitter is getting more and more popular. And with the rise of tweets, comes the rise of Twitter applications. Primarily in the Apple App Store. There are 50+ Twitter applications, but I recently bought Tweetie 2. This app so far is great. It retails in the App Store for $2.99 and it is worth every penny in my opinion. A great way to give a fair review is to list pro’s and con’s. Let’s get started. One pro is that it has a remarkably simple UI. Everything you need is along the bottom such as ‘New Tweets’ and ‘@ replies’ A simple flick to the top of the screen automatically refreshes and checks for new updates. This is very nifty and it also eliminates a refresh button which can clutter up the screen. Another plus is that if you swipe your finger right on a tweet, it gives you a multitude of options such as to reply, mark as a favorite and view that person’s profile. One negative I found is that when you’re posting a new tweet and want to insert a picture or a geotag, all those options are hidden in the word count pull-down menu, so if you’re now paying attention, you won’t notice that for a while. But that is just one flaw I found out of many pro’s. The app offers landscape mode, not just for posting but also browsing, scrolling ect. This is a nice addition since most apps only offer landscape in typing. If you have multiple accounts, Tweetie 2 offers multiple account management. A nice bonus if you have more than 1 account. I know this app must sounds awesome right now, but it gets better. If you open a hash tag, it allows you to actually define the hash tag. Not a feature I expected to see...ever. It also allows you to save searches to refer back to later. This is especially helpful if you want to save #FollowFriday or #MusicMonday. Now let’s talk about the price. This app is well worth the $3 price tag. If you try to find a twitter app with all these features from a trusted and known name, you might end up breaking out XCode and developing your own app. So if you’re looking for a fully functional, stylish and easy to use twitter application, buy Tweetie and enjoy!

I've tried them all, spent a lot of money. But Tweetdeck rules. It is my mainstay on iPhone and armful of computers I own.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Nearby feature. Taping the little blue flags to see the tweets around you is awesome. I haven't seen this in other Twitter apps and I really think it has some amazing gaming potential. I've used it to see what my neighbors are tweeting and to talk trash at the Titan's games with opposing fans. Take it to a tech conference and its great.

Tweetdeck is nice too. The real key is the iPhone and Twitter go together sooooo well. Whether in the elevator, car or on the toilet its Tweetie time!
