A little tip on speakers

One of the questions that popped into my head every so often was "what the heck does 2.0 or 2.1 etc. mean?" I initially thought it was the output of the speakers, but then I realized that couldn't be right. So I looked it up and it turns out that 2.1 means two tweeters or satellite speakers and one subwoofer. The next challenge was understanding what tweeters and subwoofers are. In simple terms, tweeters are basically the higher pitched sound producers as well as any sound that doesn't require bass. The subwoofer (quite obviously) means bass or the low pitched sounds. An example would be (from a rock concert): the guitar would come out of the tweeters whereas the drums would come out of the subwoofer.

Another example of uses of tweeters and subwoofers would be when listening to a Podcast.  All the sound that came out of the tweeters would be clear sounds, not any sort of bass.  I use my speakers occasionally for showing my parents the Apple keynotes and all the clapping seems to come from the subwoofer where as most of the talking is from the tweeters.  The subwoofer is the item that makes the desk or table vibrate.

I hope this article helped everybody out there and gave people an idea of what to look for when buying speakers.

P.S: I request that you do not post any hate comments saying: oh, who doesn't know that? Thank you for reading!
