Instapaper - Offline Browsing on Your iPod Touch & iPhone

It's not often you will fall upon a great service on the web, yet alone one that's free. Instaper offers users the ability to download a free app from iTunes that allows you to save web pages whilst browsing online and be able to read them in text-only format when offline. This function is great if you want to read catch up on the latest tech news you didn't have time to read earlier, or an article on your favourite celebrity, all outside of wireless or 3G coverage and there is a long list of other practical uses.

So How Do I Set It Up?

This set up is slightly long, but the app is easy to use once done.

Step 1: Download the Instapaper application from the App Store.

Step 2: Open your mobile safari, and come back to this page of your iPhone/iPod touch before heading over to this link and bookmarking it. Click Here - This page also has instructions.

Step 3: Now edit the bookmark to look like this, deleting everything before the word javascript.

Now it should look like this:

Save and exit.

Step 4: Now that the bookmark is installed, test it out on a webpage. When on the webpage you want to read offline, open the bookmarks tab and select Instapaper - Read Later. You will then be presented with an option to save. Do so and then open the Instapaper app on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Hit the update button in the bottom left and you will now have your text-only web page ready for viewing offline.
