Twitter App of Choice?

There are so many Twitter Clients in the App Store, you can't even count. Most are free, but some cost a couple of bucks. There are some that are basic and allow you just to post a quick tweet, and some that allow you to enter discussion boards, tweet, send messages, add people you want to follow, and, basically, do everything except your science paper.

Most people tend to go for "Twitterific," which is the standard Twitter app. I, however, prefer the style of the app "TwitterFon" (pronounced "phone").

What is TwitterFon?

TwitterFon is a free app for the iPhone/iPod touch that true to its name: it's meant for the iPhone/iPod touch. It allows you to read other's tweets, send your own tweet (and attach photos), send and read personal messages, search for people, and read your @replies. Quite simply, it's the most elegant Twitter client yet.

How does TwitterFon work?

When you tap the home-screen icon, you are immediately greet with the list of tweets of people you are following ("Friends"). It pops up with a red bubble anytime there is an unread tweet, reply, or message as if it was the mail app. Unread tweets have a green background, while read tweets have a white background. Above the list are two icons: a refresh icon (a circular arrow) to check if anything new came up while the app was open, and a tweet icon (a drawing pad) so you can send a new tweet, attach a photo, reply to someone, or tag where the tweet took place. Just type it up (portrait keyboard only) and hit send or close, to save it for later.  Four other icons lay in the dock, to check Replies, Messages, Favorite Tweets, or to search for a Twit (a person who uses twitter). The headers of each tab are different colors, so you can easily tell which tab you are in. Direct messages work the same way, except the drawing pad is now meant for sending messages. The search tab does what it's supposed to: find a tweet with the keywords you typed written in it. What's special about TwitterFon, also, is the ability to "ReTweet." You can select a specific tweet and tap the "ReTweet" button to tweet it back from your account, which can be extremely helpful!

Pros:

Clean interface, Easy navigation throughout tweets, send direct messages, search availability, ability to ReTweet, FREE.

Cons:

The only thing I could find was that you could post pictures to TwitPic, but you couldn't view someone else pictures or other links; that's one thing I definitely need Twitterific for still!

Overall:

TwitterFon is, without a doubt, the BEST Twitter client available for the iPhone/iPod touch. It's simplicity and clean interface make it my top pic for any Twit out there. Good job, Kazuho Okui!
