Review & Overview: Mozilla SeaMonkey

Download: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

When you think of the word 'Mozilla', what comes to your head? Perhaps Firefox? Well, does the name SeaMonkey ring a bell? SeaMonkey is a very useful bundle of applications that include a basic web browser (Navigator; the companion to the once living NetScape), a simple email client, an IRC chat client, and best of all, an HTML editing suit. A cool thing about SeaMonkey is the fact that it runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. I have really liked this suit, and I thought I would share it with you all as well.

First, lets go over the internet browser. This is more of an added bonus to this bundle, but it packs some great features that are obsolete in the existing FireFox browser. It gets many of your basic needs done perfectly, although its not something to over-rule your existing browser with. One nice feature is the search engine toolbar. It tabs your searches into a small window by popularity, making your results the right website. (Note, this can be done in FireFox through a simple add-on). It ties in to other applications in this bundle as well, such as the view sources of a site in the HTML editor called Compose.

Next, is the email client. Picture a stripped down version of the Mac client 'Mail' and a slimmed down version of Mozilla Thunderbird. Thats exactly what this email client is like. It lets you sync up to your email domain, such as gmail, with a simple click of a button. It is very nice, but don't let it take over your existing client.

The thrid application included in this suit is called IRC Chat, and it is simply that. It is a very useful IRC client that you can use for many chat rooms such as the ones found on ustream.tv. A simple Google search can give you directions for this process.

Lastly (and probably the main attraction) is the HTML editor. I know from experience that finding a good quality FREE editor is not easy. The one included in SeaMonkey is a completely free option that gets the job done right. You have a few options of adding codes. In the Normal view, you can drag and drop text and images without knowing a single line of HTML. If you want to get things done from scratch, just view the window in either the "Tags or Source" tab. Saving the file is as simple as CMD-"S". It saves it automatically in an HTML format that can be viewed in either your internet browser, or the included Navigator.

So that is a rundown of the suit "SeaMonkey" by Mozilla. This suit is a great option for any develper or the average user wanting to try something new. The build quality of the applications are great, and it is a download that is guarenteed to impress you. If you want to view a video from my YouTube channel about these programs, just watch below!
