My Genius Bar Experience

Today, I headed out to the Apple Store in Shadyside to get a problem fixed with my iPhone. The problem with my iPhone was that the ring/silent switch was loose and it was extemely easy to switch the modes. Also, when it was in silent mode, and you shook the phone next to your ear, you could hear something rattling inside. I had a Genius Bar appointment for 3:50, but, of course, I arrived late. If you have ever arrived late for a Genius Bar appointment before, you know that after seven minutes, they take you of of the list and move on to the next customer. When I got to the store, I was greeted by a less then helpful eployee named Chase (I think) who basically said “Screw you for getting here late. There is no possible way that we can squeze you in today.” Eventually, I talked to one store employee (I forget his name) and he took a look at my iPhone, took it over to the Genius, and then brought it back. He and Chase both said that there was something wrong with the phone and they would most likely give me a new one but there was no way that they could do it today. So, I waited a little longer and then talked to another employee named Patrick (this guy is a godsend!). He took a look at my phone and took it over to the Genius yet another time. After that, he went into the “Employees Only” section and came back out with a paper for me to sign and initial and a brand new 16GB White iPhone 3G! All I had to do was sign and initial in a few places and the phone was my new phone! So, if you ever go to the Apple Store in Shadyside, either arrive on time for your Genius Bar appointment or talk to Patrick, he’ll hook you up.

I paid for a cab to take my Dual G5 to the Genius Bar. They clicked a button on it, and said "We can't help you, nobody can.", and that was it.

The problem? My written down password did not work and FileVault was turned on.

The Genius Bar people said that I did not write it down properly. Though certainly possible in some way, I don't think so. It is a bug within the Mac OS X and they don't want to deal with it. Great, eh?
