TweetDeck: My Thoughts

Today I would like to talk about a program called TweetDeck which is available for both PC and Mac. The application can work as a client for Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. I personally use it as a client fo both Twitter and Facebook and I could not be any more pleased with this piece of software.

I downloaded TweetDeck about two days ago from “download.com” (to ensure I was not downloading a virus) and had been very pleased with the way the interface looked. It was very simple and in no way too “busy.” It is extremely simple to set up all of your accounts by simply entering your user names and passwords. It is very safe too so don’t be scared of getting your information stolen.

Whenever you want to update your Twitter or Facebook status/message, you can hit the “Compose Update” button. This will open a small text entry box at the bottom (or top if you choose) to type. You can choose where you specifically want the message to sent. Whether it be just Twitter, just Facebook, or both.

For those worried about losing the funcionality to comment on someone’s status or retweet someone’s message, you still have those options. Believe it or not, I believe the makers of TweetDeck did it flawlessly. You still have many of those options of which you had on the real Twitter or Facebook. And you can even view someone’s Facebook profile to stalk them. I’m only kidding.

The settings are very flexible and there are many options there for you. The application looks good on very large monitors because you can view more content, or columns for the matter, at the same time. I personally use two columns, one for Twitter and one for Facebook, in single column view and keep it to the left side of my screen where the Windows Sidebar would be. If you choose to do this, TweetDeck allows you to scroll from sided to side while still in that view.

So those were my thoughts on TweetDeck. I’m very happy with it and don’t have one single complaint. If you want to open at start-up like I do, just copy and past the application icon into the start-up folder because TweetDeck itself does not have that option. Thanks for reading this post,

Chris Self
