What to Expect on January 27

With Apple's recently (today) announced event, everyone has been running to their blogs to let everyone know about what they think we'll really see on January 27 in San Francisco. I figured I'd throw in my two cents and give a list of what we could plausibly see on the date that geeks around the world are looking forward to.

The "Apple Tablet"

Speculation on this bad boy has been going around for years now. The speculation started picking up again a little over seven or so months ago, with WWDC right around the corner. Nothing was announced about it during the conference, and the speculation just continued on. Then, we hit the prime time to get a product out before the holiday season. The blogs revved their engines again, and yet nothing happened. And finally, the day has come. The chances of a tablet-like device being announced is extremely high, with reports that Apple has bought up pretty much all of the available 10" LCD and OLED screens. We'll find out if these long repeated rumors will finally come true on January 27.

iPhone OS 4.0

Most likely, we'll see a sort of sneak peak of 4.0. As usual, it won't be released for a few more months, alongside the newest generation of iPhone. Feature predictions have been surprisingly thin on this topic, but with the 3.0 update being "less than expected," hope has been high that we will some some pretty awesome new features with this new software.

iLife '10

This prediction is the most recent of the bunch. An update to the iLife suite of applications has become an annual thing, with iLife '09 announced and released last January at MacWorld 2009. Rumors in the second half of 2009 stated that the "iTunes LP" feature would be incorporated into iDVD. If these rumors are to be believed, this feature would be part of the iLife announcement. I hope that we see some improvements to iMovie, i.e. slimming it down. For me at least, Final Cut Express runs smoother than iMovie, which shouldn't be the case.

Whatever be the case, we will all be watching with our breath held on January 27 for Apple's "latest creations."

I plan to be doing as much coverage on this event as possible. If you have any questions, you can email me at ndmacgeek@gmail.com.

Does anyone think that we'll see iWork 10' in addition to iLife 10'?
