Burma: Under The Regime

As some of you know, Burma (Now called Myanmar), is being controlled by the country's military regime. I don't want to get into too much detail about this why this has happened by I want to inform you all about something that troubles me.

Aung San Suu Kyi, a women who is the face of the democratic party in Burma, has been under house arrest for over two decades now. The country's military government are so afraid of her power that the country's leader wont let her name be spoken in his presence. She is forced to live inside of her family's home in Burma, alone, without family. She wasn't even able to attend her husband's funeral. She is kept up in this compound day by day and has been for over 20 years. Recently, the Burmese government sentenced her to 18 more months of house arrest.

You're probable wondering, "Why are they doing this?" or, "Why her?". The answer is this. Her father, Aung San, was pro-democracy and was the main person who freed Burma from Britain. He was seen as a hero throughout the country but sadly was assassinated. Since then, Aung San Suu Kyi has followed in her father's footsteps to try an make Burma a democratic nation. She was elected for Prime Minister of the country and nearly 80% of the Burmese population supported her. Unfortunately, the regime took control and this is when they sentenced her to house arrest.

Aung San Suu Kyi is said to be living with unidentified heath problems. She is a 65 year old Burmese woman who is seen as heroic (like her father), and is admired for her friendliness and charisma. Now, I understand that you probably don't care much, but I just want you to realize what else is going on in the world. Terrible things like this are happening all over the world and most of the population is ignorant of these issues. If you think it's unfair of the Burmese government to be holding this poor woman under house arrest for this many years leave a comment. I want to know what you guys think.

Thank you all for reading this, I hope that this influences you to learn more about current events and take a stand against what is happening throughout the world. Remember, everyone is capable of making a difference.
