iPad 2 Rumours #1 (12/12/10)

So, the tech world was graced with brand spanking new images of what appears to be iPad 2 silicone cases that include some very interesting things, that we could see on the iPad 2. Above is a video showing these cases, with more images here.

Firstly, the cut-out at the back of the cases are very likely to be for a back facing camera that Apple are likely to implement on the iPad 2. Since the cut-out isn't ovular, I think it's safe to say we won't be seeing a microphone or LED flash next to the camera like we've seen with the iPod Touch 4th generation and iPhone 4 respectively. We obviously don't know what the resolution of this camera will be, but I'm sure it'll be at least 3MP. 

The next main thing I noticed with this supposed iPad 2 cases, are their slimmer designs. It was inevitable that this iteration of the iPad would be slimmer, as that is the just what the natural progression of a gadget's design would call for. Also, the edges around the perimeter of the case seemed to be more tapered, just like what we saw in the design leap from the iPod Touch 3G to 4G.

The final thing to point out is a mysterious square cut-out at the bottom left of these cases. We don't currently know what would go there, but rumour has it, that it could be a cut-out for a possible USB 2.0 port or even an SD card slot. Personally, I'd prefer the former, as it would provide WAY more opportunities for accessories rather than a mere SD card slot.
