When is the Mac App Store Coming?

UPDATE: Apple CEO Steve Jobs today said: "The App Store revolutionized mobile apps, we hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can't wait to get started on January 6."

We can now gaurentee that we will see the Mac App Store on January 6th, 2011.

If you would like to read the previous article I posted before this announcment was made, look below:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Apple announced the 'Mac App Store' at their special event, Back to the Mac, last October, lots of speculation over the release date spread across the internet. Apple's official word on this was a simple 'within 90 days.'

When Apple says this, they usually mean one or two weeks before 90 days are up. If this carries on then we should expect to see the new way of downloading applications to your Mac this January.

Here are the rumours:

  • January release date
  • iWork 11' to come with it
  • Individual apps from suite of programs available (eg. iMovie could be sold on it's own for $19.99 as opposed to part of the iLife suite)
  • December 13th release date PROVED UNTRUE

All I can say is that we will see it before the end of January.

For those who would like more information, there is a sub-catogory on Apple's official website, under the 'Mac' section.

Or maybe, just maybe it'll come when Lion comes out?

Just a little hunch...
