VIOLight UV Cell Phone Sanitizer Review

Especially in the cold season of Winter, illnesses are spreading faster than ever, and with gadget usage on the rise, we as tech users are getting more and more exposed to these viruses so the guys over at Violight have come with the Violight UV Cell Phone sanitizer.

So, what does this product do? Well, it sanitizes your iPhone, iPod, mobile device/accessories, keeping you free from bacteria that could cause: Strep, Salmonella, e.Coli, Listeria, H1N1 etc.

Very simply, insert your device into the included 'basket', then insert that into the 'hub' of the device, and to initiate the procedure, put the large cover on. The basket is relatively well sized, so you can expect most of your devices, like iPhones, iPods etc. to fit. All three of these components are made of durable plastics, meaning this thing isn't going to break easily.

The cleaning process takes around 4-5 minutes to complete, and upon completion, you may have to put your device in again, but upside down, as the UV light coverage only covers about half of most devices' total height, therefore bringing the total time of completion to about 10 minutes. The blue LED on the outside glows to indicate when the cleaning process is occurring, and will obviously stop glowing upon completion.

I found this product to be very intuitive and easy to use, considering what it's actually used for - ie, cleaning your device. The only caveats of the device I found was that it runs of batteries (which aren't a problem), and while this is a matter a preference, it would have been nice to see maybe an optional mean of connecting the device to mains power. The second thing I found to be slightly annoying was that you cannot store the device, with all components in place, without the device trying to clean thin air (ie, the UV lights will be working away even if nothing's inserted).

You can pick it up over here on VIOLight's website for a very good price of $49.99 USD, which I find justifiable, considering the build quality and it's purpose.
