How To: Create Your Own Custom iPhone Ringtone

Have you ever wondered how to make your own custom iPhone ringtone? Well I will show you how to do this in a couple of straightforward easy steps.

1. Find the song you want to make your ringtone this must not be bought on itunes as they will charge you to make it. The best idea is to buy the song of Amazon MP3 and It does work if the song has been ripped off a CD.

2. Go to iTunes and click on edit (windows) or iTunes (mac). Make sure the import setting is AAC this can be found in the general tab and then click import settings.

3. Right Click on the song you want to make your ringtone and go to Get Info. In the Option tab it will say Start and Stop time of the song and you want to edit the timings so its a 30 second clip, you will probably want your favorite part so when that is done make sure the boxes are ticked and click OK.

4. Right click on the song and convert it to AAC this should be done relatively quickly and make sure you delete the original NOT the AAC version.

5. Find the song in Windows Explorer or Finder. An easy way to do this is to Right click then show in Windows Explorer/Finder. This will take you to the file location of the AAC file.

6. If at the end of the song it says .m4a then all you have to do is rename the end so it reads .m4r. When i was trying this in Windows 7 it didnt work when i added .m4r .

7. If that didnt work when renaming it go into Control Panel > Folder Options Then the View tab. There should be a box which is checked saying Hide Extensions for known file types. You want that box to be empty. Click Apply then Ok. It will now let you rename the file. It may say this will be unstable or cause problems just click ok nothing happens.

8. With your new .m4r ringtone drag it into itunes and it should come up into the Ringtone Section of iTunes. Voila ! Your done you have your ringtone now all you have to do is plug in your iPhone and make sure you sync ringtones in the iPhone tab and all you have to do is select it and your new ringtone will play each time you get a call.

Thanks

Christian
