Relay for Life

I'd like to take a moment to take a break from technology.

Every year, the American Breast Cancer Society sponsors an event called the Relay for Life. I'm sure some of you have heard of it and even participate in it in your area. Throughout the year, your team works on raising money, all of which goes towards finding a cure for breast cancer. Then, at the beginning of June, the main event is held. The purpose of the event is to be walking all night long, hence the "Relay." Each team usually has one representative walking, and is switched out roughly every half hour. The other members of the team are then camped out in the football field (usually takes place at a track), most of the time with a bonfire blazing.

Last year was the first year I participated in it, and it was an absolute blast. Our team raised a lot of money, which is going to be used to help fight breast cancer.

Now it's time to get a bit personal...

The reason I participate is not only to help people all over the world, but to also keep one person close in my heart. You see, my mother died from breast cancer in 2000. Before that, she went through numerous treatments, which reduced her strength and energy to practically nothing. I Relay because of her. She was an amazing women, and I wish that she were still here to see just how my life has turned out.

She is the core reason that I do this, and without her inspiration, I would be a totally different person today.

Now, this wasn't simply an informative blog post. I can't help but ask the wonderful people of the internet to at least consider donating something to my team. If you wish to do so, please visit http://bit.ly/dtDfov. Anything and everything is appreciated very much. Even a small amount is better than nothing! I simply ask that you consider giving something to fight this horrible disease that kills so many people every year.

I apologize if I offended anyone by trying to solicit money from you guys, but it's for a great cause, and I couldn't help it.

Thanks again in advance for any donation you make.
