Justified

Justified or just greed??

It is likley that apple will simply replaced the $ with a £ for us in the uk , after doing some lose sums it works out the people in the UK that want the iPad will be paying around £170 i.e. $260 more for an iPad compared to the US. This really does beg a question of is this actually justified pricing or simply a way to make more money from international customers?

I have being looking forward to getting the iPad since it was anouced earlier this year but the thought of having to pay half again for the same thing...just seems a litle bit of a rip off. First time that i have questioned if im actually going to get one...But what do you think ? It is actually justifed the way apple are rumoured to pricing the ipad for international customers??

Is it just the fact that Apple US quotes prices without tax, whilst UK prices include VAT? I am not sure, but if this were the case UK prices may work out a bit cheaper.

Well the slogan on the Apple.com UK website still says "A magical and revolutionary product at an UNBELIEVABLE PRICE"......So they have to do something to the price to make i so unbelievable!

I think that this is justified. Because apple will not make money if they keep it at the same price as in the united states. They actually have to send the devices there, which has a heavy tax on them. That is the main reason, that its so expensive.

In reply to Jonathan's post - you have to remember apple has all its products manufactured in China, therefore they are being delivered directly by container ship to the appropriate regions of the world, whether that be Europe, North America... I don't think there is much extra cost in that part of the process, its more to do with the 'Brit tax' that is placed on all products sold in the UK. Even minus the 17.5% VAT; prices on most goods turn out more expensive than in the US / Europe.
Thats why whilst in the US this summer I will be having a shop around for any electronics, rather than buying them here!

I remember, in an interview, Jobs once said, "It's just more expensive to do business over there". "over there" being the UK of course.

@ aidan. Good point, but then again. Apple was created here in the United States which means that they wouldn't put a higher price on the item. And in britain, there are probably different laws and registration that goes on there. Like here in the united states, the ipad almost didn't make the launch date because the FCC or F whatever...didn't approve of the ipad. Wierd
