iPhone 4.0: What Happened?

Today Apple give a sneak Preview on the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0, I have to say, the new features look really promising and exciting! Steve Jobs announced that there will be 100 new features but some below are the most important:

*Multitasking We have been wanting multitasking for a very long time. That time has finally come.

*Better Background Notifications

*Background audio On the iPod Touch, you have been able to do this for a while, but now you can also do this on the iPhone

*VOIP

*Local Notifications This means that you will receive notifications far quicker than before!

*Task Completion For example, if you are uploading images to Flickr, you can browse photos and still upload to Flickr

*Fast App switching This will give you the ability to switch App's quicker

*Folders I said in my Predictions video I would like the device to be able to organize the apps by categorizing them, Instead of them doing this, you can organize your apps by putting them into Folders

*Unified Inbox (Mail) Before, you could have multiple mailboxes.. But now you can browse multiple mailboxes in one go without having to go back and open multiple mailboxes

*iBooks for iPhone Apple announced that iBooks is coming! Along with the iBooks store

*Great features for the enterprise

*Added support for multiple Exchange accounts on the same phone

*iAd Apple's new mobile Ad's, They appearantly will include emotion and interactivity, They seem to also been non-intrusive. Apple say that 60% of the revenue will go to the developer, and 40% will go to Apple, which seems to be a fair amount

*Social gaming network This hit me on the Face! A Social gaming network!!

Get your facts straight, man.

Background audio (in this instance) has not been possible on the iPod Touch, just background audio from the Music application. The iPhone had this as well. The background audio they announced applies to 3rd party applications as well, like Pandora.

Local notifications doesn't mean you'll receive them far quicker -- it means you can receive notifications from applications without being connected to the internet.

Fast app switching doesn't "give you the ability to switch App's quicker". It lets applications store their state then go silently into the background when switching out of the application, then allows them to resume exactly where the application left off when you switch back.

Irock, As far as the Background audio goes, Sorry; I mis-understood.. Local notifications also means that you will receive them quicker because it is stored on the app. which means it doesn't have to reach out to get the Notification on the Server,, And fast app switching technically means you can switch apps quicker because you can switch between them and leave the state of the app the same.
