Apple Orders 10 million CDMA iPhones?

A pretty interesting report came out this week that Apple had placed an order for 10 million CDMA iPhones. What does this mean you may ask? The current iPhone uses a GSM radio inside which makes the phone compatible only with GSM networks (AT&T and T-Mobile) CDMA, which is a less popular way of supplying signal for cell phones is used by Verizon and Sprint. GSM devices cannot be used on CDMA networks, and this is why the current iPhone would not work on the Verizon network. In addition it is believed that AT&T exclusive deal with Apple was suppose to end this year. So could a Verizon iPhone be on the way?

Reports state that Apple is purchasing the devices from the company Pegatron. Both Apple and Pegatron declined to comment this week on the rumor. Also last week reports came out that Verizon was working on an "iPhone advertising blitz" for this summer. This could be good news for all of us. More iPhones could mean that we could see falling contract prices from carriers who are competing for customers. The next generation iPhone is believed to be announced this June at WWDC 2010. But what about Verizon and it's new LTE network that is is suppose to release this year? Many believe that Apple will release a duel radio iPhone which would allow for CDMA and LTE signals. Verizon reports that the LTE conversion should be finished sometime in 2013. This should allow those customers who do not have LTE available in their area yet, to still be able to use the phone.

This could be big news for all Verizon customers that are waiting for an iPhone for the Verizon network. Could we finally see the iPhone come to a new carrier? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
