Flock Jumps on the WebKit Bandwagon

Flock: The Social Browser, which is currently (version 2.6) based off of Mozilla's FireFox and thus uses the Gecko rendering engine, has announced that in their new version they will be using WebKit, and will be based off the open source Chromium project.

The current version focuses heavily on social media, as will the new version. However, the new version boasts a much cleaner and simpler user interface, as seen below:

Compared to the current UI:

The new version also boasts a sidebar, something that to my current knowledge no other Chromium based browser has.

As always, the browser has support for all of your social networking wants. The beta can be downloaded from: http://beta.flock.com/ and is currently only available for Windows. (Mac is on the way, no news for Linux)

Here is a post on the Social Blog about Flock that describes it in more detail: http://www.thecreativeone.tv/socialblog/2010/5/12/flock-the-social-browser.html.

I'm happy to see more browsers using WebKit and Chromium. However, I will be sticking with my default of SRWare Iron; an awesome browser that I will post about later.

Please note: Try the beta at your own risk. It's an unfinished product that does warrant some possible disaster.
