Kindle 2 Price Drop

Readers of the blog, nor viewers of my channels know that I've actually been on the market for an e-Book Reader. I've gotten really into reading and would like to find a sleek new device to carry all the books I need or want to read at all times.

I've recently been looking particularly at the Kobo eReader from Borders Bookstores and Kobo. It's been very popular in Canada and has come to the US for $149. The problem with it is that it is very bare bones. There's no wireless connectivity for book downloads. There's no keyboard for instant search. There's no note-taking ability, no dictionary, no web browser, no MP3 player...it's just reading books (and playing video poker if you know how to get to the easter egg).

I really wanted the Nook (WiFi only model just released, $149; 3G model now $199) or the Kindle 2, but they were too expensive because of the features they packed in, which was all of the above. I just don't have the money to cover the expense for that, especially when I'm new to the e-Book market. I wasn't entirely sure I needed all those features and if they were worth the price.

Today, however, I looked on Amazon (I don't know why, but something drove me to) and what did I find when the page popped up? The Amazon Kindle 2 is now just $189. Holy crap. I don't know when this price was dropped, but needless to say it's definitely a good thing! It's the exact same Kindle it was before, with Global AT&T wireless connectivity, exact same design, for an even lower price. If you ask me, that's a pretty good deal.

If you recently purchased a Kindle 2, I apologize. I don't think there's really anything you can do that would be legal or worthwhile. Be happy with your purchase, and enjoy it. However, if you haven't purchased it, and you're interested in buying it, I suggest to do it fast. I don't know how long this price will last, though there's no indication of the price going away anytime soon.

However, if you think about it, Amazon might be trying to get rid of the Kindle 2. Why? They may be preparing for the launch of the Kindle 3. The price drop might be coaxing consumers to buy them now so they can start production on the new model.

If you are on the fence about the Kindle 2, I suggest wait and see what might come from Amazon next. However, if you are really interested in the Kindle 2 now, go ahead and get it. It's a great price for a great e-Reader.

Happy reading!
