XBLA Gets a New Interface

Following the major Dashboard update for the Xbox 360 that was released last year, it included many new features such as; a layout change, the addition of avatars for each GamerTag, plus many more. Now it’s the Xbox Live Arcade to get an update.

The update’s been given a name, “Destination Arcade” and the main goal for it is to make everything easy to use and easier to access content. Options will be available to sort content by price, rating and other criteria. You’ll also be able to see games that gamers in your friends list have played and recommend.

Major Nelson says the update will make it easier for you to find new content with the built-in browser. He also released some screenshots to show off what the XBLA will look like after the update:

Not much more has been announced about the update, except that it should be hitting your 360’s on the 14th of July in the USA and no release date has been confirmed for the United Kingdom. However we shouldn’t have to wait much longer.

I just hope it isn't like the Zune add-on they released for viewing videos. Previously, I could go to my downloaded videos and trailers and just watch them. Now, it forces me to load this Zune interface, which almost always needs to update before it will work. It's not a massive problem, but it does add extra time onto getting to your videos, which is surely not an improvement?

I have a bad feeling this might work in the same way. I hope that it doesn't force boot into it when you go to Games Library. I really hope it is an additional component you can load up, much like the Rock Band Store. If it remains like that, I'll be perfectly happy because as much as I like to see improvement and slick interfaces, I don't have trouble navigating the current marketplace, so will happily continue to use the old way it if it's quicker.
