Is this normal?

I have a first generation iPod touch and I got it for my birthday in December 2007. Lately the battery life is just terrible and after two and a half years of use, I don't blame it, especially now with the App Store and all the apps I have and use, it dies pretty quick. It used to have amazing battery life, but now it can barely get through a movie or TV show and the only time it lasts for hours on end is when it's playing music with brightness very low and Wi-Fi off, which it usually is.

I read online that the average lifespan of an iPod touch battery is 400 recharges, which I most definitely went over. So I decided to ask Apple a few questions about replacing my battery before actually taking it down to the Apple Store. I thought it wasn't too bad of an idea to talk to someone from the Apple Store chat and see what they say. Here is the short conversation:

I thought it was a bit abnormal that the representative told me to "google it." In my opinion, I thought it was funny, so I wanted to share it with you. I did end up Googleing it. My question to you guys out there reading is whether or not that's normal? Also if you can give me information about replacing my battery that would be great!

I think it's cause they're in the computer equivalent of a call center. I don't think they're allowed access to any other internet feature, other than the store chat program. So that's probably why they had to tell you to Google it, cause they probably weren't allowed to visit that site to get the link.

Like i said, I THINK that's what it is haha. Still pretty funny though :)

You can't replace your bettery. It's impossible, they have them sodered in and connected to other things.
