My Journey Into the Apple Family

I began my journey to the Apple Family a few years ago when I purchased an iPod Nano 3G affectionately know as a "fatty".  Immediately I was impressed by the level of quality that Apple placed on their products.  I mean afterall here was this tiny thing that could hold around 1500 songs and it was so tiny and made of metal, it felt like quality.  Well it has been quality and is still in fine working order to this day.  I decided after I bought it that I wanted to become a part of the Apple Family.

Fast forward to summer 2010.  Over the last couple years I had been contemplating on buying a Mac.  I looked and looked but could not decide.  I found the Apple Refurbished site which I thought was awesome because of the much lower prices.  I finally broke down and bought a refurbished 27 inch iMac with the 2.8 ghz Core i7 processor.  While I was at it I also purchased an additional full size Apple Keyboard and the Magic Trackpad.

I was so excited the day the iMac came.  I brought it right in the house and connected it all up only to find a big point in the screen that was dead.  It was like a big pencil point on one of those fatty pencils.  I was saddened.  I called Apple and they immediately processed another unit to be sent to me complete with 2 day shipping.  I received that iMac and became a happy owner.  Recently I finally started to use the DVD drive in it.  Unbeknownst to me the superdrive was scratching my DVD's and rendering them unplayable.  I finally figured this out whenever I placed them in my DVD player and they wouldn't play.

Back to the phone I went to talk to Apple.  I got pushed up to senior level Apple Care and this is where I really learned what it was like to be a member of the Apple Family.  The senior advisor told me that I didn't deserve the level of service I was getting.  He stated that they would send me another iMac out only this time a brand spanking new current model of the 27 inch with the Core i7.  Mine was last years model but now I am receiving the 2.93 ghz Core i7 and it has many upgrades over my previous one.  It has the higher capacity SD slot and the much better 1 GB video card.  Sounds cool huh?  Well get this.  Because of all my trouble Apple is also sending me a brand new iPod Touch!  How's that for service?  I say it's damn great and it sealed me as an Apple family member.

My Apple Care senior advisor told me that he wanted to make sure I remembered why I chose Apple and that he was going to make sure that I knew that Apple cared for me as a customer.  There has been a couple of other little goodies added in.  My point folks is that Apple has welcomed me with open arms and taken care of me like they would a real family member.  Yes I still own PC's and probably always will due to the nature of some of my work.  However I am proud to say I will always be a member of the Apple Family.  I now have a desk full of Apple products.  I have to tell you. Do not hesitate to call Apple if you have a problem.  Call them.  There are different tiers of support and the further up you go the more they can do for you.  Be persistent and Apple will make it right.

The really cool thing about this whole ordeal is that I've made two great friends at Apple.  Both senior level people have exchanged personal emails and cell numbers with me.  One of the guys is also in my field of education.  I'm a college professor.  We plan to stay in touch and now consider each other colleagues in the field.  You really never know who you are going to meet or what friends you make when you call Apple.  One thing is clear though, Apple will make things right and you should never hesitate to call them.  Steve Jobs has always talked about how Apple has taste.  I couldn't agree more.  They have taste in design but they also have taste in people and they have some very helpful people.

I plan to further go deeper in the Apple Family.  I plan to get an iPhone and I also plan to start signing up for the free classes offered at my Apple Store.  You may ask why since I am quite an experienced computer user?  Well it's simple.  I want to do it for fun!  I also want to do it to interact with other members of our Apple Family.  Why don't you join me in doing all you can to make the Apple Family even better?  Go to some classes, get involved, and most of all be an active member of the Family and community.

Wow, lucky! A brand spanking new one after two dippy iMacs. Then a free iTouch with it!

That's what I call beautiful Apple service!

Jason,

Yep it sure is. I wish more people knew this about Apple. They do try hard to make things right.

That's a brilliant story! Off to AppleCare I go...

"Hello? AppleCare? My iMac just jumped out the window, can I have a brand new Mac Pro with the highest available options as well as the new iPhone and all the latest iPods, oh, and throw in an Apple TV while you're at it..."
