iPhone 4S: First Impressions
This is it, after all these months, the wait is finally over and now we all know what the iPhone 4S is like. Here are my thoughts.
We all thought it was the iPhone 5 coming with some slick new design and all new hardware. Sadly, myself and many other fanboys where wrong. Tim Cook, Phil Schiller and Scott Forstall introduced a 4S with a lot better speeds, graphics and over all insane performance.
Specs include: 8MP Camera. 1080P Video Recording. Dual-core CPU (A5 Chip), 2x as fast at CPU tasks. Also dual-core graphics. Up to 7x faster in the previous iPhone, new antenna system, you can now intelligently switch between two antennas between send and receive to make even better call quality. Better battery. No 4G but download speeds have increased so it isn't 4G, but it is just as good. A lot of new changes, mainly internal. The camera has improved a lot which is great, a lot of people are going to be swapping their camera for an iPhone clearly!
The new Voice Assistant is called "Siri." Interesting name, but it comes from the company that Apple bought a year ago! Obviously they've been planning this for some time. Looks like when you speak to your phone it will now talk back, this is seriously cool, this is the future of mobile technology! With the push of a button you automatically get the information you ask for.
A new text to speech feature is now included with the keyboard. Kind of like Android, when you dictate what you want to say in a text or a document it automatically writes it down. Nothing new, but still a great feature for iOS.
iPhone 4S launches October 14, 16 GB for $199, 32 GB for $299, and now with 64 GB for $399. And Sprint gets the iPhone too. The iPhone 4 is $99, the 3GS is now free with contract.
That's all about the 4S, no iPhone 5 and no Steve Jobs. Tim Cook did a great job with the Keynote along with Schiller and Forstall. A lot of internal changes that will benefit a lot of people, but I'm sure some people are disappointed not having a new design and a bigger screen. Well that's a rap! If I have missed anything, put it in the comments!
