iOS 5: Predictions

According to Apple Insider, Apple is planning to release iOS 5 in mid-April. Now this is just a rumor, but I want to give my predictions on what new features we may see in iOS 5. Disclaimer: These are all rumors!

  • Redesigned user interface

I think anyone who owns an iPhone or iPod touch can agree that the interface is getting boring. I think that Apple will redesign everything a new notification system, a new home screen, and possibly an improved lock-screen that shows more information than just the time and date. I’m 99% sure that Apple is going to change there notification system  because they have asked developers to make mock-ups of a improved notification system. Not positive about a redesigned lock-screen, but it’s been a rumor for awhile so will just have to see what happens.

  • Apple’s own social feed app

This was a rumor of what might have been in iOS 4.3, but obviously this isn’t true. Similar to Windows Phone 7’s People hub just better. I’m not positive about this rumor and there is no evidence of it being true.

  • Released in June

Apple has always released their OS updates in June with the iPhone, and I don’t think that is going to change.

  • New features support

Such as HSPA+ and LTE, NFC (Near Field Communications), and HDMI output. The HDMI output I’m almost sure on because it came to the iPad 2, so why not on the next iPhone? HSPA+and LTE is now on a couple of Android devices, Apple has to do this if they want to keep up with the competition. Finally, NFC. It’s only a rumor, but I can imagine Apple putting this feature in and calling it “magical”.

  • Improved Voice Controls

What you can do in Voice Control is very limited, and I barely use it. I think they should make it do more things like search the web, open an applications, and more.

  • Resolution

iOS is going to be game-changer for Apple. If  it’s not what everyone wants people will probably switch to Android or Windows Phone 7. Hopefully we see some big improvements.
