Mac OS X Lion: What to Look Forward To

Apple announced during the Back to the Mac event last fall that the newest major release of Mac OS X, this one called Lion, will be released this coming summer. Mac OS X Lion will accompany a new line of powerful Macbook Pros and possibly new Macbooks and iMacs. However that's a different rumor. Here is what we should look forward to in the new operating system.

Mac App Store

Unlike other features in Lion, the Mac App store has already been released with much success. Users can now enjoy the fun of Angry Birds from their Macs. And are also relieved of the trouble of searching stores for certain softwares when it is offered to you in one large store. For example, iWork can be purchased through the Mac App Store. Saving you the trouble of going to an Apple store and buying it.

Launch Pad

This feature of OS X will realy bring iOS software "back to the mac". Apple's goal like this is to lessen the differences between the two softwares. Launch Pad will be a usefull tool that incorporates the springboard application seen on all iOS devices. This will definately be a welcome addition to Mac OS X.

Full Screen Apps

I have been waiting for this feature. Many apps, as Mac users know, take up most, but not all of the screen. This feature will incorporate the full screen view of apps for the Mac. Another welcome addition.

Mission Control

Misson Control is set to give a Mac user the benefit of a bird's eye view of everything open on their Mac. This is very similair to expose, yet not so because it shows you everything. This will make it way easier to get around a Mac.

Multi-Touch Features

Finally, Apple is adding more multi-touch gestures to the magic trackpad. This further emphasizes Apple's desire to lessen the gap between iOS devices and Macs.

Auto Save

This will be a great feature. Auto save automatically saves a document at specific intervals of time. I would imagine that you would be able to adjust the time between saves, but we won't know until Lion's release.

Versions

Versions wil be like the backup system for Auto Save. This feature will document every step of your document. So, If you make a major mistake, you can go back to any given time and fix it quickly and simply.

Mail 5

This App will be way improved from before. Mail 5 will institute a very iPad-esque look with the column of emails and the emails been looked at on the right. This minimizes space and makes this app overall more clean, organized and straightforward.

I'm very excited about Mac OS X Lion. So are a lot of people. What feature are you looking forward to the most? What do you wish could be added? Feel free to comment below if you have an answer to these questions. Meanwhile, I'm going to save up for this new update. The newest way that Apple is teaching us to "Think different."
