Another Story About Good Customer Service

In our world now, many companies are resorting to bad customer support in order to make money. This broke? That would be $500. You need this to be fixed? Fork over $200.

Over February break, my camera, a Nikon Coolpix L22, developed a black speck inside of the lens. Frustrated, after coming home from vacation I sent an email regarding the black speck. Like many companies, the responses were automated, and answers you could find in the FAQs. My camera was in warranty; however, I received the camera as a gift, and therefore I did not have a Proof of Purchase to prove it.

Though I was skeptical that the repair would be done well and done on time (since I needed the camera for another trip which was within a couple months), I decided to send my camera in anyway. I packed away my camera, with the warranty information and all to Nikon. They received my camera within two days and immediately checked it out for any problems. They sent me a invoice online, and I accepted. They began work on the camera the next Monday (they received the camera on Friday).

About a week and a half later, I received my camera in the mail. I opened the box to see they sent me a completely new camera. Of course it was the same model, but they sent me the new camera for absolutely no cost, even though I did not send them a Proof of Purchase.

Even though I was skeptical about Nikon Customer support at first, they definitely pulled through and showed their best. The speed at which they acted upon the problem was amazing, and I could not ask for more. On top of that, my warranty which was almost over was extended another 180 days.  And the best part? They did it for free.

Nikon definitely sets an example for many other companies that neglect their customers. Has anyone else had to send their camera into repair? How is Canon customer support? Or how about Fujifilm or Panasonic? Leave a comment below (or even a follow up) describing your customer support experience. Mine was absolutely amazing. And now, I have a speckless camera to bring on my trip.
