Review: Macally Ecostand2 Viewing Stand for iPad 2

I recently got this stand in for review from the folks over at MobileFun. Appropriately named the Ecostand because it is made almost entirely of wood and it is also, well, a stand.

Features:

  • 360 degree rotating stand allows for various viewing angles & positions
  • Magnetic mounting solution offers quick and easy iPad 2 removal
  • Detachable hardshell case may be used separately from the stand
  • Organic and eco-friendly bamboo material for a greener living lifestyle
  • Supports both landscape and portrait modes

On first glance this stand is beautiful, the wood is high quality and is very durable. You can easily trust your iPad in this as it connects with an included case which has a magnet on the back which snaps into place also allowing you to pivot the iPad to any position you want.

The stand uses small hinges to bend into position, this means users can use it for typing or just viewing media on.

Now onto the bad points. The hinges are kind of stiff, which is good to a certain extent. I'd like to see them more loose but this may happen over usage. Another thing is the included case. It is a basic snap on, hard plastic case. I was very cautious putting it on my iPad as there is no padding to stop it from scratching my iPad.

Apart from the minor bad points, this is a great stand. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a different style of stand.
