Skype for iPad, Now Available

Finally, it's here. The official Skype iPad App is now available in several different countries, soon to be world wide.

First of all, let's talk interface. The second you open the application you are greeted with a login screen, almost identical to that of the Mac/PC Version. Your contacts appear in stacks, appropriately named for the group, eg. "Online Contacts." You can also choose just to have a basic thumbnail layout displaying the contacts name and display picture.

Features include basically everything you would expect. Video Calling & IM along with SMS and Skype to mobile/landline phones. You can use your Skype Credit, Online Number and Voicemail all within the app. The app works over both WiFi and 3G. It also has a history feature; this means you can view previous conversations with someone from your contacts list. Think of it like the Mac/PC version shrunk down with a better interface. What more could you want?

Currently, I have had no issues with the application. Calls worked semelessy with rarely any lag, audio was loud and at a high standard at both ends. Even over 3G.

The application is compatible with:

  • iPhone
  • iPod touch
  • iPad 1 & 2
  • Mac
  • PC
  • Skype enabled TVs
