iPad 3 Invite Sent Out

Today, as most of you probably know, Apple sent out their press invitations to advertise the iPad launch event.

Instead of boring you with all the rumours about what to expect with in the iPad 3, I am going to cover what the invite shows us. However, I will just point you to this article which explains all the features you can expect to see, in case you were interested.

1. In the dock, we see the calendar which is clearly there to show you the date of the launch - no surprise there. However, the inclusion of Maps and Keynote is something that I think contains a meaning. Not to long ago Apple aquired a navigation company - so we can expect a powerful navigation system to be included. The Keynote icon can suggest multiple things - a) An updated iWork for iPad suite or b) Improved presentational features. While I believe that both of these are valid suggestions - it is more likely we will just see an updated iWork suite.

2. Hardware changes:
 - Retina display — the wording suggests that we can expect a Retina display, but we already knew that was going to happen.

- If you look carefully at the edge of the device, you can see that the border is a very dark grey metal colour. Whether this border is made of metal or something else, I don't know, but it suggests that we can expect a redesign of the iPad.

- This point isn't certain, but I will include it anyway. There is no Home button in the image. Now, the device could be in a landscape orientation, so we don't know. Although, with the likelylihood that we will see Siri included in the iPad 3, I highly doubt that Apple would remove the home button, and ruin the synergy of the experience across multiple devices. However, The features are in iOS to make the Home button redundant, so why wouldn't Apple use it? It's up to you to decide!

Finally, the wording — this is obvious, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the "something you have to see." part could suggest an updated Apple TV box. This is unlikely, as this is clearly an iPad event, but Apple has announced Apple TVs at the end of events covering other products before.

No matter what goes down in this event, I'll be writing about it.
