What Has Television Done for Society?

Some people may answer – nothing good. However, having an engaging means of entertainment in the home is a double-edged sword. Television brings the potential to have the entire family gather to watch a movie or a particular series together, keeping them in the same room and having a conversation about the same topic for 30 minutes or an hour.

A movie can keep them together for two hours, and it might keep them talking for days afterward if the movie is engaging enough and there are other related movies or books to explore. This is an asset at a time when people are too involved in the Internet and distancing themselves from other people in person. It can, however, tip the scales to too much television, like using the television as a babysitter for younger children and suppressing their creativity.

Still, the invention of the television was a pretty impressive milestone, and families do benefit from the ease of access to television today. The invention of HDMI Cables of course created the potential to increase the quality of picture and also to play what’s on the computer on the television screen. This also has been a blessing and a curse all at once.
