LG Optimus G: Review

We all use smart phones. Some us have many of them. We take photos, browse the Internet, watch movies while in the plane, listen to the movies, read mail, create presentations and family movies and play games.

The best way to do things right is to use the proper tool. Mirror and HD camera, MP3 player, laptop, tablet - I own that all. When going on vacation, I take a charger for each of the device and the case and the bag and the manual. That takes me long to pack all those things and you can't take them to skiing or pool.

Therefore we want to find one perfect gadget...

And while we are looking for it, let's take a look at LG smartphone..

The first impression

I'll hold it in my hands - I love pretty things! It has a very sleek design and the details fit each other perfectly. On the back cover the logo disappears if you look at a different angle.

It looks elegant. I like it. The speaker is located at the back which is good as you can't cover it with your palm and it sounds clearly when you play.

The camera stands out which kind of ruins the overall integrity of the design...

What's this about?

It's modern, fast and powerful. And that's true! The interface is very smooth and it deals great with multi-tasking. It works great for options like these:

QSlide allows you to simultaneously see two functions at once via transparent layers to maximize onscreen multitasking. Play and watch the movie! You can always adjust the transparency level.

SHARE YOUR VISION: especially the Dual Screen Dual Play option (you can play on your smartphone while the movie is playing). But i couldn't test it - my PS3 failed to fine the phone media server. That's a minus.

LIVE ZOOMING - "Zoom in and out to enjoy the smallest details while watching recorded videos with Live Zooming."

You can zoom an image but it looks like the phone should learn to zoom what I need, not what the phone needs.

There are plenty of things to look at; let's go one by one getting some help from the manual as well.

Display

It's large, its maximum brightness is cool, colors are great and natural, thanks to IPS.

Camera

Use Live Shot to snap a still photo while simultaneously shooting HD video, or try Continuous Shot to capture multiple images in a row - so you can choose the best one.

Smart Shutter automatically adjusts for subject movement providing clearer images, while Time Catch Shot actually captures images before you press the shutter button, virtually eliminating any lag time. And with Cheese Shutter, you can just say "cheese" to capture images without pressing shutter button. Capturing the perfect shot

The camera has lots of features: Cheese Shutter make a shot by saying a "password"; shot series; HDR; panorama and the scene choixe. But the variety of features cause the interface complexity. You can choose your favorite features to easier access them though...

Why can't I make a screenshot in the camera mode or launch QuickMemo?

The front camera is not impressive - the quality is only enough for Skype on a bad connection. There are no focus and exposure.

Video and Music

Here the smartphone is just perfect. Due to a very powerful processor and awesome display. You can watch HD movies without coding and the picture quality is impressive. I was happy to experience Dolby Mobile support - when you where headphones, the sound is deep and expressive.

I couldn't copy the full HD movie - Android File Transfer doesn't allow to copy files larger than 4Gb. That's ridiculous!

The manager interface is not intuitive. Send hi to iTunes!

I was able to find the app on LG site but there was nothing for MAC Os x.

Try finding where to copy the movie to? Or where to copy the screenshot from?

Games

Games are perfect - the huge display works great here. I was forced to play Angry Birds Star Wars up to an end again - as it's so addictive!

In general, that's an awesome smartphone and it will be a great help while on the go. Games and movies will never let you get bored thanks to the display quality. Smooth interface shade some of the inherent Android drawbacks. That means there will be more gadgets and more reviews!
