Handbrake Video Conversion and Ripping Software for Mac

This is one of the more controversial apps I have tried in recent memory. It is a well known video conversion and ripping software. There have been a lot of bad reviews, which surprised me as I had not tried to look at what other people said until after I had tried it myself. I didn't understand the animosity that was being flung its way. That is, until I actually read through the reviews.

What People Are Saying

Most of them are claiming a lack of functionality and it not working the way is says it will. In each case, I had no problem doing what they were saying was an issue. That is when it hit me: this isn't a program for the casual user. It is for those comfortable with a more advanced video ripping program, and who know how to customize features on that level.

How It Works

While there is a basic user level that allowed beginners to use it, Handbrake is best used by those who know what they are doing. You will just be able to get the full benefit of the features that way. Plus, get around some more difficult instructions that are required to do things like rip or convert an MKV file, or add audio without having to recopy and sync it to the video file.

Conclusion

The time it takes to rip or convert a file will depend on its size, so I would recommend using a more compressed video file type. Otherwise, it is simple enough to use for those with experience in that kind of software. I would warn off most beginners, unless you are willing to learn how to use it.
