Average WPM Speed: The Information You Need to Know

The Highest Typing Speed

The fastest words per minute speed on the pc ever registered is 216 wpm, was set in 1946 by Stella Pajunas. Nowadays the highest English language typing speed belongs to Barbara Blackburn, who typed with a speed of 212 wpm during the record test in 2005.

Medium typing speed is 41.4 words in one minute which is too far from the fastest typing results.

Men or Women

Average wpm speed for men is 44 wpm that is faster than women' touch typing speed by 7 wpm. Even thought, women like to practice touch typing more than men. By the way, you can pass a typing test by yourown and find out are you type faster than an ordinary typist.

Errors

Average typist makes up to 8 typos for every 100 words typed. In other words, the typing accuracy is usually around 92%.
