The Art of Interviewing

I'm sure at least some of you know that I'm currently running a podcast and am actually in the process of starting another. One of my favorite parts of podcasting is the interviews I do with people.

My current pet project is called "The Infinite Playlist," and is a podcast that focuses on music. It only makes sense then that we interview people that are part of the music industry. I look forward to this every week, and is something that I absolutely enjoy doing.

When you're planning on interviewing someone, the first thing to do is, of course, get in touch with the person and schedule a time. We do all of our interview through Skype with a conference call, but there are many more options out there.

Now, probably the most important part of the interview, is planning the questions. I never like to plan specific questions; I like to plot out topics instead. For example, I may want to dive into how they started getting into music. With that topic, I can break it down into a few questions that I come up with as the interview is taking place. As long as the person I'm talking to has an idea of the topics I'm going to be asking, they'll be able to be prepared.

Then there's the actual interview. I'm normally a very conversational person, and I find it easy to talk with people whom I really don't know. However, some people may be the exact opposite, finding it next to impossible to talk openly with someone who is considered a complete stranger. Really, the only thing I can say about people having a problem with this is that it takes practice, and the more you do it the better you become.

But in reality, the point of this post is to tell everyone that we are currently working with some really cool musical artists that are well known on YouTube. I'm not giving out any specific names, but they're really cool people, and we plan on featuring them on the podcast over the course of the next few episodes.

Earlier I mentioned that I'm working on another podcast. You can find out what information we have available on that at http://2geeks1show.co.nr. I'm sure that show is going to appeal to this audience much, much more. :)
