This Week In Sports 2010: Week 26

This week was not the best for the US of A in the world of sports now was it? We had the US national team lose to Ghana, deja vu. We had John Isner win the longest tennis match ever, then lose the shortest match all year at Wimbledon. We also have Stephen Strasburg pitching tonight against the Braves, and yes we are still talking about him though it is his 5th start. There were 2 dugout blowups in the MLB this week as well, so lets get into this.

I am going to start off with the biggest story of the week, which was a sad one. The US loses to Ghana in the Round of 16 elimination. They lose in extra time 2-1 after Landon Donovan tied up the score to set up extra time. There, Ghana struck in the first few minutes in extra time, as they did in regulation (scored in the 5th minute). The US just could not recover from those early goals allowed, and fell 2-1. Eliminated. Going home. Deja vu.

Next, we are going to jump into Wimbledon. It seems like the world is not on America’s side this week, as Sam Querrey, Andy Roddick, and John Isner all were eliminated. Sam Querrey lost to home-favorite Andy Murray, Roddick goes down to unknown Yen-Hsun Lu in 5 sets, and John Isner was eliminated by Thiemo De Bakker. Isner loses the shortest Wimbledon match this year, a couple days after winning the longest Tennis match in the history of the sport. Irony.

The MLB was filled with temper tantrums and mind explosions this week. There were two blowups in the dugout between teammates. The first was the Cubs’s Carlos Zambrano (what’s new) against the White Sox, and the second was involving my favorite team the Tampa Bay Rays. That was between BJ Upton (my favorite player) and Evan Longoria (my third favorite player). Upton deserved the yelling. He was not really sprinting, or really running for the balls in the outfield. It was more of a pleasant jog. He was also out of position, something Longoria wasn't too fond of. Upton then drew the walk (which Longoria applauded), but was then picked off at 1st. All of this happening in front of his brother, Justin, who is a key player on the DBacks. Its okay BJ, its okay your still my favorite.

I am also sorry I could not get to the NBA Draft this week. I will have a run down and my thoughts on it in a separate article. I just have a lot to say about it and I think it will be better in another article.
