Google Chrome VS Safari 4: Head To Head

I recently downloaded Google Chrome beta for OS X and fired it up. I was quickly overwhelmed at its speed and compatibility. I will be taking a look and some of the pros and cons of Chrome and Safari 4.

When I first downloaded Chrome, the speed was the first thing that stood out right off the bat. Even the launch speed compared to Safari was a no contest win for Chrome. No bouncy bouncy in the dock. It fired right up and was ready to go very quickly. As for browsing speed, it comes out on top of Safari 9 times out of 10. It loads Javascript quite well and intensive sites such as Hulu and ESPN load flawlessly. When compared interface wise, the customization techniques are quite similar to Firefox. There are many themes and addons available for Google Chrome. Although there are a few customizations for Safari, Apple tends to lean toward the "our way or NO way" maxim when it comes to software. The interface tops out over Safari. Overall Google Chrome is a simple, clean and effective browser. It will be joining my Mac as a new default browser. 9/10

Don't get me wrong, Safari is a great browser. There is a place between great and amazing. It's amazing how long a browser can linger there. ;) When speed testing Safari is pretty much equal, except on launch to Google Chrome. It loads Javascript and HTML fairly quickly but can lag at times. (Beach ball of doom,spin...) Safari 4 claims when just Javascript fails, the entire browser won't but many times I have had to force quit because of a Javascript error. Customization wise, Safari falls of the bus. Chrome and Firefox leave Safari 4 in the dust behind their jet propelled engines. There are some addons for Safari but nothing compared to Chrome and Firefox. Safari functions well as a browser, but for some of it's bugs and lack of addons it earns a 7/10 in my browser rating.
