Nikon D40 Review

A little over a month ago I bought myself Nikon's entry level DSLR, the D40. With very decent specs and a great price tag, I was really attracted to it. With most DSLR's running you around $500 or more, I was flabbergasted when I saw this camera for $405 on amazon!

Build Quality

When it comes to technology, when your paying less than the average you usually get less than the average...but not with the D40. Nikon was aiming to make a light camera with out making the performance suffer, and they really nailed it. The camera with the kit lens is very light, and comfy to hold in your hands, and really doesn't take away from the picture quality.

The camera body itself has a very nice texture to it that makes it very easy to hold onto with out worrying about dropping it. All the buttons are easy to push and also give you good feedback so you can keep your eye on the eyepiece, and know if you press a button.

Ease of Use

One problem with higher end cameras is that the back is filled with buttons, and that makes it very hard to navigate your way around that menus, but that is not the case with the D40. The back only has a few buttons, but still let you control everything. Once your in the menus, everything is really self explanatory. All of the options are easy to understand, so you don't have to be a pro to be able to navigate and adjust the settings on your camera.

Picture Quality

The most important aspect of a camera is the picture quality. The D40 has 6 mega pixels, which may make you think that this camera has bad quality pictures, but the megapixel amount isn't the most important part in a good quality picture. A big problem with a lot of cameras is that they only take good pictures when there is natural light. In the case of the D40, it takes great quality pictures not matter what the lighting conditions are. Of course pictures with natural light will always look better, but when you are in florecent lighting, there is absolutely no grain in the pictures.

The Final Words

All in all I can not recommend this camera enough! The best part of this camera is the fact that if can grow as you grow in your photography. When your first learing photography this camera offers tips to help you learn how to take the best picture you can, and when you becoming a much better photographer you don't have to fork over $500+ for a new camera, because this camera can be expanded to fit all your needs. With a very low price point, and such a great camera this is a fantastic buy, and has so much bang for your buck. If you want to get into photography, or your upgrading form a film slr, than this is a camera to get! It is absolutely fantastic!

If you have any questions at all feel free to email me with any of your questions. I really hope you get this camera, because I can promise you, you won't be sorry.
