Linux Ubuntu : Revisited

Hello, If you read my post on Linux Ubuntu : First Impressions, you will know that there wasn't that many good things to say about Linux Ubuntu. So this post is about some of the good things Ubuntu has to offer. (also a drawback)

So we all know what Windows XP's start up chime is...right? And a lot of us know what a Mac's start up chime is too. Well have you heard Ubuntu's? I seriously can't find a better sounding chime than this, (Click link for the chimes)

(sorry couldn't get Mac and WIndows chimes due to Linux making me download flash player 3 times!)

Anyway, a great feature Ubuntu has is that if you need a screen recorder or video editor (even though it's very bleak) you can most likely find it in the Add or Remove tab. (under applications) now, I think Linux did this to save you having unwanted programs slowing down your computer or just because you don't need or want them, And I think every OS has to have this.

Okay, I think that Ubuntu is a little bit behind Vista and XP when it comes to customization (Wait for the hate) but the Ubuntu desktop is very practical, apart from it looking like OS X and Leopard. There are many cool customization features that Ubuntu has to offer, like '3D cube' (rotating desktop), Wobbly Windows, ect. Also it comes with pre-installed Themes... Which I really want in Mac and Windows. The Themes are quick to apply and make a huge difference to your desktop appearance.

Downloads is something that I don't particularly like about Ubuntu, it's a very simple process but Ubuntu makes a meal of it. Here is what happens when you download something on Mac or Windows.

Download the file > Install it > Open it

or Download the file > Extract it > Install it > Open it

Here is what Ubuntu does.

Download the file > Open it > Install it > Check for updates > Scan it > Load it > Another installation process > Open it.

A download process shouldn't take that long, Ubuntu just makes Mountains out of Mole Hills when it comes to downloading files and programs.

Ubuntu is not my main OS but, what makes me keep going back to it?, sometimes to look for new software, sometimes to play games but although it isn't as practical as Mac and Windows it is just a simple, easy OS...Leave it at that.

(Here are some screenshots of Ubuntu)

Sorry, tried to get the whole installation process, but I couldn't.

Thanks for reading

Take Care....
