Keeping Your Pets Cool in the Heat

Hey everyone, from the title you may have guessed that this is not a 'tech' related post, but I think that it is vital for everyone to understand the importance and needs of your pet.

Okay, so we know the summer is on its way, and everyday is getting hotter, but while we are at the beach or at the pool, someone part of our lives may be suffering. Dogs, Cats, Hamsters ect... get EXTREMELY agitated when they are out or left in the heat.

Ways to know if your pet is suffering -

Losing fur

Not eating or drinking

Heat lumps all over their body

Rebel against owner

Heat Stroke

(Occurs in hamsters..all rodents) Get wet tail (Diarrhea)

Loss of nails and teeth. (I know, I didn't know that either)

Vomiting

And many, MANY, more things could happen to are pets.

Now, I don't think that we want our furry friends to suffer or to catch any of these illnesses, so here is a list on: how to prepare for the heat, prevent any infections, and how to keep a happy, friendly pet.

Change your pets water everyday, make sure it is fresh and cool.

Place your pets bed or cage in a shady, cool area around your house or room.

Buy a fan and place it in a room on a high setting, if you place it near a cage (if you have a rodent) place it at least 1 foot away on a low setting as the cage can get to drafty.

If you have a Dog, give it a cool (but not freezing) bath, I own a hamster and I bought grooming wipes, aswell as cooling them down it also cleans them too, I am sure you can purchase these in any local pet shop.

I know this may be hard but if you are out walking your dog in the heat, Don't stroke them as this can agitate them.

If you have a hamster, rat, mouse ect. give them fresh vegies, but do not give them lettuce because this is poison to rodents and can damage their emune system.

I don't want to make this post to long but I really want to get the message across. Please, Please take these pre-cautions and anymore you can find on the internet, if you really care for your pet you will take in these tips.

Thanks for reading and take care
