Windows 7: Calling Microsoft out

Okay we've all tried that new "amazing" OS that Microsoft managed to pull out of their rear in less than 10 months. Thats what I call it, you might know it as Windows 7. "Its a great OS!" "For once Microsoft made something useful!" Those are comments from people. Alright, I'm not here to bash a new OS. But lets face the facts! Look at Windows 7 vs. OS X Tiger.

Taskbar vs. Dock:

Seriously Microsoft? This is only one of the things that Microsoft chose to copy.

Now what? Is Windows Mobile going to look like the iPhone OS? Oh thats right, it already does!

If Microsoft was "Copying" Apple then Apple would file Copyright claims against Microsoft. They have not done that yet so...

Come on though, we have to accept that two major operating systems may develop to have some similarities. As in all technology. My point is that a competitive market is what makes companies strive to develop new technologies, how can we expect things to move on or advance if companies are leapt on for the similarities. Microsoft deserves a break. Yes, vista was not very good but this shows a real attempt at them trying to work things out, its a beta and people are already having a knock back at them. Some people should try pulling their head out there a***s and see if they could make a better operating system. My final point is, your comparing windows 7 and mac osx "tiger", apples previous version os. Compared to "leopard" the latest version of the apple os. You'll find they're not so similar in that perspective.

This was written on a 15" macbook pro and I don't live for apple. I apologise if I caused any offense.

"Similarities" is what happens when people can't come up with something original to keep up with market competition.

Okay, I can see where you are coming from, but seriously? This just sounds like a post from a distressed Mac fanboy. While I accept there are multiple similarities, I highly doubt the Windows 7 development team sat down one day and said, "Right guys lets make the taskbar more like OSX's dock, because we all know the dock is better".

This is how it came about. The said to themselves, what do people want, and how can we make the lives of our users easier and more productive? What they found was that a more graphically centred taskbar causes less clutter, and provides a more aesthetically pleasing experience.

So before you start ranting about the whole thing, think about it.

Just because the windows task bar is see through, what i think alot of you apple fan boys have forgotten or don't know is that see that little vertical line at the end of the seventh item (excluding that actual windows start bar logo) that vertical line you can adjust, drag it to the left and it will take away all those items. There for leaving it as a normal task bar aswell as a dock. Which makes me want to give Microsoft credit, for creating a Task Bar with easy quick shortcuts to popular applications.

And, just the same as "Karl" this was written on a MacBook White, and i'm also purchasing a iPhone tomorrow. I don't hate apple and i don't hate Microsoft, They are both exceedingly good computer companys. And i don't hate OS 10 and Windows XP,Vista & 7, They too are both exceedingly good operating sysyems.
...... and before you fanboys stop me the numbers prove how good all of those operating systems and computers are.

Declan, my views precisely!

Im a Mac user but I'm seriously thinking about not reading this blog anymore. You don't care for Windows 7, neither do I. But why act like a fanboy with the insults at Microsoft., their product, and their user base? Live and let live.

"Immature artists imitate. Mature artists steal"

Besides, this is to get people to like Windows and Microsoft again, remember that. To get rid of all the bad publicity around Vista.

I'm a Mac user (have been for 4 years) and I really like Windows 7 so far. You sound like an immature Apple fanboy when you spout stuff off like this.

I understand it looks similar to the OS X dock, but the functionality is not. Microsoft actually put some time into this and thought about it.

This is also just 1 feature. What about the ability to look through and see hidden windows with Aero? I have yet to see that feature in OS X - and it's a great one. The ability to drag windows and hold them against the top of the screen or bottom and the window expands to cover the whole screen. Again, something Apple has not done.

It's a great OS so far and I can only predict it will get better by the time it's released. This will probably be the first Microsoft OS I ever purchase (that hasn't been included with a system).

Many people fail to realize, originally, Apple copied Microsoft, and Microsoft have copied Apple. Its a 2-way game. I know I am in the minority as most people here take Apple as the gospel (and I am one, I love my iMac :D), but Windows 7 is really good, it wont replace OS X for me, but it is a solid OS, usable, and a far better improvement that Windows Vista.

This comparison you have made is not very good. I use Windows 7 via Boot Camp and there task bar does not look anything like a dock. That is like saying that the task bar in XP looks like the dock.

There are only so many ideas you can have for a computer, then they all start looking the same.

This is like saying Apple copied Windows when they produced the Mac Pro or G5 because the Mac Pro uses a tower.

Anyway, good comparison other than that.

How does that look like OS X? First off those are only programs that are RUNNING. Plus that does not look like the dock at all. Have you even tried Win7? Don't just judge a book by its cover.
