Flip Video UltraHD: First Thoughts

I DO NOT OWN THIS DEVICE!!!! I'M SIMPLY STATING MY OPINION, BASED OFF OF WHAT IS ON PURE DIGITAL'S WEBSITE, AS WELL AS AMAZON.COM AND OTHERS.

With that introduction out of the way, let's get into it.

Within the past week, Pure Digital Technologies released an update to what may be their most popular camcorder to date: 720p Video. Right now, more popular has been the Flip MinoHD, with it's compact size, sleek finish, and beautiful High Definition video. The UltraHD offers that same idea, in what may be a better value.

Pros:

- Lower price than MinoHD ($199 vs. $229)

- Removable, rechargeable battery pack

- Still 720p

- Even MORE storage (8GB for 2 hrs. of HD vs. 4GB for 1 hr. of HD)

- Larger screen (2 inch vs. 1.5 inch; better for widescreen)

- Still built-in USB

- Still includes accessories the MinoHD does (pouch, composite AV cable, lanyard, etc.)

- Battery exchangeable for 2 AAs

Cons:

- Bulkier

- No customization

- Black or white options only (goes with no customization)

- Side swivel USB

- No expandable memory

Overall, I'd say the pros outweigh the cons by far. The cons are only important for people who pay that close of attention to detail. If you are debating between, say, the Kodak Zi6 and a Flip, you can't go wrong with the Flip UltraHD.
