Backing up your iPods Music

Nightmares, some being of the boogyman, some being of death, but some may lead to losing something of importance. It seems to be that music is one of the most prized possessions held on a personal computer in this technology filled generation. A hard drive failure, a iTunes delete, even a malware crash can lead to you losing your music, on your computer that is. If you own an iPod you most likely have music on it, and with that comes from either the mobile iTunes Store on your device, or from a computer sync wire nearby. For some strange and yet bissar reason though when there is a hard drive failure you are not able to transfer back the music from your iPod back into the computer, using iTunes that is.

Using a software called Senuti you can Back up all your music from your iPod back into your iTunes library using a USB connector and some common knowledge. What’s very convenient about this software though is that it is actually the word iTunes spelled backwards leading to its name Senuti. When transferring music back into your Macs library it leaves all the transferred data into a folder on your desktop which you can later move to a separate location of your choice. Another very convenient attribute to this software is its ability to check and transfer options meaning you don’t have to keep your old pesky music that you never needed and put it back into your iTunes library for God knows how long.

Interface design for this application is very simple to both manage and use. The first step with backing up your data is to plug in your iPod and get started. Then towards the right site of the app you will see all the songs that you may have in a particular playlist and on the top right hand corner there is a search bar to search for any other music that you can’t seem to find or remember if you had it. Senuti strikes a vague resemblance to the iTunes software therefore it being easy to use and manage all in one place.

Overall Senuti is a worth wile application in my opinion if you find yourself not being too handy when it comes to backups on your Mac and doing them very often at times. You can find this application for a very low price of $18 dollars right here at Senuti’s website or you can try the free trial and maybe consider using Time Machine a bit more often.

I purchased Senuti after a hard drive crash. While it did recover my library, I had to resort copying the music in batches of 10-20 - anything higher and the connection bombs itself. Even then, it had a tendency of saying it's unable to copy specific files though they would copy fine if you do them one at a time (I appreciated it keeping track of while files were copied via the dot).

My advice to anyone using this software is don't bother with a whole drag/drop of your iPod. Just copy the music and videos over and let iTunes build the library up again.

backing up your iPod? Yeah, it works good for that. Pirating all your friends' music? Bingo, now we're on to something.
