Will the Zune HD Stack Up?
Usually I post my thoughts about certain topics in the world of tech. However, I open the floor to you!
Today, Microsoft announced to pricing, capacity, and launch date of the Zune HD (which had been posted before if you scroll down/go to the next page). The Zune HD will be available in 16GB and 32GB capacities in black and platinum. They will cost $219 and $289, respectively, and will be launched on September 15th. Currently, however, you can preorder it on Amazon, if you wish.
The question I present you with is: will the Zune HD stack up to it's competitors. Mainly, the iPod touch.
The Zune HD (32GB model) is said to hold 8,000 songs, or 48 hours of Standard Defintion video, or 10 hours of HD video. The OLED (super-bright, clear, crisp colors) screen is rated at 480 x 272 resolution in a 3.3", 16:9 display. Lastly, the Zune HD has a built-in wireless chip, as well as HD radio, which complete the highlighted features list.
The current iPod touch (32GB model) is said to hold 7,500 songs, or 40 hours of video, or 25,000 photos. The graphics chip, combined with the gorgeous 3.5" display makes videos, pictures, and games pop and make them feel more realistic. The App Store, along with the wireless B/G built-in, and the several built-in web apps, make doing almost anything easy and portable. Lastly, the UI is simple, yet intuitive, and constant firmware updates keep it on top of its game.
Overall, I think it's a tie, and is based on personal preference. What do you think of the Zune HD vs. the iPod touch 2G and why?
BUT WAIT!!! Let's not forget that the Zune HD is launching on September 15th, which may end up being its downfall.
Apple's Media Event is scheduled generally around early September (within the first two weeks). Rumors are constantly surfacing about the new iPod touch. I don't condone any of these rumors, but based on what is likely to be seen, can the Zune HD take on the iPod touch 3G?
Another thing to remember is that Apple is very sneaky and secretive. Therefore, we don't know if there will even be an iPod touch 3G!
These are just some things to thing about with regards to the Zune HD, since all the details have been confirmed.
