Does Apple Appeal to a Certain Consumer?

It is no secret that in today's world, marketing and advertising are everywhere. We live in a world where we have thousands of choices as consumers when it comes to what we can buy. But, the last few times I've been at my local mall I've made an interesting observation.

Let me backtrack for a moment... I am not ashamed to say that every time I go to the mall, I visit the Apple store. (even if I don't need anything.)  And, while I'm there I tend to pay attention to the people are around me. What's interesting is, after I leave the Apple store, I tend to see a handful of people that I saw in the Apple store, shopping at the same places I frequent. It got me thinking. Is it just coincidental? Is the mall only so big? Or, could it be, that the same people who use Apple products, tend to enjoy similar goods as an overall consumer?

Obviously this is not a question that can be answered easily. And to be fair, the only experience I've had it at the Boca Raton town center. That being said... I do find the possibility of Apple users having the same general sense of overall consumption very interesting.

This could very well be a direct result of advertising and marketing (similar ads attract similar people, type of thing) or, it may speak for Apple. Does Apple attract a certain type of individual? It's possible, but either way, I find it interesting.

What do you think?

I see all different types of people all with very different personalities using Apple products. A false stereotype already exists about us but really we're all over the board. Head to your local Mac User Group and look at it's members or to your local Apple store and look at their employees...you'll see a extremely diverse crowd of people. What is true is that we all have something in common: a love of well engineered, useful, reliable, aesthetic computers and products that look as good as they work.

A "handful of people" shopping where you shop constitutes a coincidence and that would mean that the others not in the "handful" shop somewhere else.
