Unlocking the iPhone 3G

Work sucked today for some reason. I’m thinking it was because I hadn’t been to Kohl’s in a week and I like it. Whatever, work sucked. I came home and began to watch Alabama vs Virginia Tech on channel 5. Ricky showed off his new iPhone 3G to me. He wanted to know if I could unlock it because he had to use some sort of adaptor sim card for his T-Mobile sim to work.

I took his iPhone 3G and began to work on it. I started off by updating his iPhone OS to 3.0. I had to download the OS update and then installed it once it was complete. The iPhone was upgraded but there was one problem. The OS update disabled the sim adaptor so now the iPhone was unusable with T-Mobile. I quickly called Cristina at work and asked her what to do because she had experienced the same situation. She told me she’d call me on her break but she didn’t. She texted me, “heyy look up how to unlock iPhone on YouTube!” I was thinking to myself, “seriously? that’s why I’ve been waiting for you to go on break?” I was better off on my own.

I decided to jailbreak the iPhone using RedSn0w. The jailbreak required me to have iPhone 3.0 OS on hand so I downloaded it. The jailbreaking was a success. Now I only need to unlock the iPhone, which was extremely easy, all I had to do was add the source code “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” to Cydia. BAM! The iPhone was unlocked and Ricky didn’t have to use the sim adaptor anymore.

Success…almost. Ricky didn’t have the ‘camera’ app that comes with every iPhone. I searched for it all over the iPhone 3G but it was gone. The only thing I could do was restore the iPhone to factory settings and I did. Then after the iPhone was back to normal, I jailbroke it and then unlocked it by adding the source code. Success! I unlocked my first iPhone!
