Courier: Microsoft's Secret Tablet

There's been much hype for an Apple tablet the past few months. Rumors were flying that it'd be on Verizon and would sell for cheap. Little did we know that Microsoft was working on their own tablet. It's not an actual tablet; it's a booklet because it displays 7in dual screens. Courier uses fingers for multi-touch recognition and a stylist for writing down notes. Courier will have a home button like the iPhone, inductive charging like Palm's TouchStone technology, and will feature a camera.

I'm very impressed by Microsoft's accomplishments. I hope it can live up to the hype but can't only imagine what Apple's tablet will bring to the table. Microsoft will release Courier in 2010; around the same time Apple will be releasing theres.

Unlocking the iPhone 3G

Work sucked today for some reason. I’m thinking it was because I hadn’t been to Kohl’s in a week and I like it. Whatever, work sucked. I came home and began to watch Alabama vs Virginia Tech on channel 5. Ricky showed off his new iPhone 3G to me. He wanted to know if I could unlock it because he had to use some sort of adaptor sim card for his T-Mobile sim to work.

I took his iPhone 3G and began to work on it. I started off by updating his iPhone OS to 3.0. I had to download the OS update and then installed it once it was complete. The iPhone was upgraded but there was one problem. The OS update disabled the sim adaptor so now the iPhone was unusable with T-Mobile. I quickly called Cristina at work and asked her what to do because she had experienced the same situation. She told me she’d call me on her break but she didn’t. She texted me, “heyy look up how to unlock iPhone on YouTube!” I was thinking to myself, “seriously? that’s why I’ve been waiting for you to go on break?” I was better off on my own.

I decided to jailbreak the iPhone using RedSn0w. The jailbreak required me to have iPhone 3.0 OS on hand so I downloaded it. The jailbreaking was a success. Now I only need to unlock the iPhone, which was extremely easy, all I had to do was add the source code “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” to Cydia. BAM! The iPhone was unlocked and Ricky didn’t have to use the sim adaptor anymore.

Success…almost. Ricky didn’t have the ‘camera’ app that comes with every iPhone. I searched for it all over the iPhone 3G but it was gone. The only thing I could do was restore the iPhone to factory settings and I did. Then after the iPhone was back to normal, I jailbroke it and then unlocked it by adding the source code. Success! I unlocked my first iPhone!

Bodega: The Mac App Store

Love the App Store? Well now there’s something similar called ‘Bodega’, the App Store for MAC OS X. Bodega is just like the App Store: that all-in-one browse/download/buy experience.

Bodega was released by IDFusion Software in the first week of August. The program has a list of applications (both free and paid) that users can download, review, and buy; just like the App Store. Bodega allows you to purchase an app directly from the developer.

When opening Bodega, you are greeted with: “New Releases”, “Shopkeeper’s Picks”, “Top Free Downloads”, & “Top Paid Downloads.” The apps in Bodega are nicely categorized and well structured. The only downside is that Bodega is still new so there isn’t as many apps as there is in the App Store. But if Bodega succeeds, it’ll be because of the developers who submitted their applications.

Do I believe Bodega has a future? Absolutely, up until (or if) Apple ever releases an App Store for Mac. Bodega is free to download, so give it a test drive and tell me what you think!

App Review: TweetMyFace

I recently purchased ‘TweetMyFace’ for 99¢ in the App Store. TweetMyFace stands for Twitter, MySpace, & FaceBook; this app updates the three major social networking sites’ statuses at once. The app is simple & straightforward with a four tab navigation. The four tabs include: post status, current status, history, & accounts.

  • Post Status: sign in to your Twitter, MySpace, & FaceBook account & select which account you want updated with a simple “on” or “off” switch.
  • Current Status: displays your current status on Twitter, MySpace, & FaceBook.
  • History: lists the statuses posted through TweetMyFace & to what social network.
  • Accounts: displays the accounts that are enable for use with TweetMyFace.

This app is useful for updating statuses only! This app doesn’t display other user’s updates, retweets, @ replies or anything. This app is only for updating! This seems to be the only con about this app. Overall, I like this app & use it everyday.
