Apple and Microsoft

Well this past day everyone knew Apple was going to release the iPods and to my delight a new iTunes. So far the new iTunes is nice and of course has the new home share feature.  I'm kinda old school because I have a 3rd gen Nano in the light blue color.  It still works great and looks great.  True to Apple quality.  In fact I'm listening to Jamiroquai on mine as I'm writing.  I love Jamiroquai for those of you who don't know!

Anyway ok back to the blog!  My prediction is that Apple won't introduce new iMAC's till mid 2010 and I think the new ones will feature the option of getting a quad core processor.  As far as design cues I'm not sure.  We know the rumors about the all black model.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

In other news I wanted to talk to the PC users a minute.  I don't know if you guys know it but Microsoft has some decent offers for students.  I'm the eternal student (working on my Masters degree currently) and I'm 35 but I sure take advantage of student discounts!  Anyway if you don't know about it Microsoft has what they call their "Ultimate Steal"  and you can get Microsoft Office 2007 Unltimate for $59.95 and the only thing you need to do is provide an @.edu email address for your college or university.  Go here:  http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx

It is legitimate.  Now that being said let me say this.  You really should check you college's bookstore and IT department first.  Why?  Well because on many campuses there are even better deals.  For instance at my campus we can get Office 2007 Enterprise Edition for $15 with our student ID and you can also get it for the MAC as well for $15.  Not a bad deal huh?  Better than the $59.95 but I wanted to throw that out there because there are some who do not have the deal I have and $59.95 is better than what their school offers.

You can also purchase Windows Vista Ultimate RED Edition for $64.95.  For those of you who do not know what RED products are they help combat Aids in Africa.  Check out David's video about his RED iPOD Nano 3rd gen at "thecreativeone" on Youtube.  Apple and Microsoft both have certain deals on products and the RED Edition helps by donating 10% of your purchase to help fight Aids.  The Windows Vista Ultimate RED edition also includes a couple other gadgets that regular Vista doesn't and has some cool wallpapers and other items.  Of course Windows 7 is coming out and so there should be an upgrade from RED to 7.  Just think of it this way.  If you currently need Vista for your Windows needs I say get RED at the discount because you'd be getting the Ultimate Edition while helping combat Aids and that is a good thing for the world.

Again if you haven't yet checked out Apples new iPod and iTunes by all means go to apple.com now and check it out.  Happy Computing!
