Technology During a Snow Day

Yes, believe it or not, today I have a snow day. This means that school has been cancelled due to, obviously, snow. The wind picked up last night, and now the whole world around me is totally white. This inspired me to write a post about different ways to use technology when you're stuck in the house.

Netflix/Roku

The biggest thing that saved my sanity today was my Roku hooked up to my HDTV. If you don't know, Roku is the most popular way to access Netflix's on demand video on your television. Unlike an Apple TV, Roku doesn't require an HDTV, so you can connect it to your old tube TVs if you desire. So today, I'm working my way through season three of "The Office," which, so far, is turning out great. With this, I've been able to stay glued to the TV with absolutely no interruptions from commercials.

Apple TV

With Apple's big event coming up on Wednesday, I'm geeking myself out by watching as many old keynotes as I can. I'm currently chugging away through WWDC 2008. I know this is kind of weird, but that's just the way I am. Also with the Apple TV, I have full access to my iTunes library on my television.

Laptop

And, of course, I can't forget about my MacBook. This is the biggest distractor I have. It keeps my time filled with site browsing, such as Reddit, Facebook, CNET, and even Valleywag (kinda hate to admit it). Also, I'm working on editing a new video in Final Cut, and a birthday surprise for a friend of mine.

So, with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, I will now leave you and enjoy the rest of my snow day.
