Is Apple going back to the older MacBook design?
This past Wednesday (October 20, 2010) Apple held their latest event "Back to the Mac" where they introduced the new iLife Suite, the new MacBook Air, and gave a sneak peek at Mac OS 10.7 Lion. Everything looked awesome, Apple has hit yet another home run. But I noticed something with the new MacBook Air. There is no black glass cover over the display like there is on the MacBook Pro. Is this potentially a sign of things to come? In Apple's October 2008 Mac event, they announced the new MacBook and MacBook Pro line, both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro took after the iMac with their black glass displays. Shortly after that time, the MacBook went from the sleek aluminum unibody laptop back to the glossy plastic design. Now, the MacBook Air never caught onto the black glass display, and the MacBook went right back to its plastic design after about 6 months or so. Now I want to emphasize that when Apple did announce the new MacBook design (with the unibody enclosure) they kept the old plastic MacBook for sale for $999. Currently, Apple does sell an anti-glare MacBook Pro, that looks exactly like the old matte aluminum MacBook Pro's sold back in early 2008.
Since Apple didn't kill the "MatteBook Pro", and they didn't kill the plastic white MacBook after the unibody machines came out, are they going to revert back to the older aluminum and plastic designs? Apple always likes to hint things like this to us. The iPhone, led to the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch, led to the iPad. The iMac, led to the new LED Cinema Display. I'm just sayin'! haha okay sherlock holmes.
alright hahahaaaa...There not hinting that there going back to the old style.
1. the macbook Air has always had a matte display. never has it had a glossy, because its too thin.
2. apple is always giving the option for a matte display. Even the "old" macbook pros had glossy and matte. You can go buy a mbp in matte. Doesn't matter.
3. the imac didn't hint to a new cinema display. Because the imac took the design of the cinema display.
4. The ipad was actually created before the iphone was. The iphone was just released first.
haha kids these days....
I reckon, glass was too heavy and think. But I sure hope your right, with the matte
You might also notice they bumped the resolution up, maybe hinting that higher resolution screens will become standard now
I highly doubt they are going back to the old design. Apple is usually not one to admit when their wrong. Although I would love to have antiglare displays back as a standard, Apple doesn't seem to be wanting to make antiglare more accessible to people. This is modern day Apple we're talking about here, they like glossy, and they don't care about your opinion. They might make it a little more affordable in future generations of MacBook Pros. Simply removing 1440x900 option on 15-inch and make 1680x1050 the default. That would reduce the price of the antiglare option from $150 to $50.
Using glass on the new MacBook Air would have made the unit way too top heavy. That's my theory. It's really the most logical. Hell, even the new iPod nano has a black bezel, so if there was a way, they would have made that happen for the MacBook Air.
