Interesting Offseason to Come for Quarterbacks in the NFL? Part 1 of 3

Matt Leinart was a second string quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals this past NFL season.  He was backup to Kurt Warner, who has started more than two seasons for the Cardinals.  Leinart was the tenth overall draft pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, and has not lived up to expectations so far.  Arizona gave him the oppertunity to start over Kurt Warner in Arizona, but he never played to the full expectations everyone has had of him.  Ken Whisenhunt and the entire Arizona Cardinals staff believe in him to be a successful and remarkable quarterback, but with a rating of 72.9 and a 13-15 Int-TD ratio, it'll be quite difficult for him to get as much love as Kurt Warner did in Arizona.  Should he start?  I personally believe he should.  He's what you'd call an average quarterback.  He may not be a difference maker like Arizona thought he'd be, but he still has enough talent to fulfill the starting quarterback expectations for the Arizona Cardinals.

Troy Smith is another name to be concearned about in the offseason.  Troy Smith is a dominating quarterback, he has the skill of any star rushing quarterback, such as Michael Vick.  Troy Smith has a lot of heart, and has the talent to start for any professional football team.  He is very young, so his youth is high on the charts.  He is a very dominate wildcat running quarterback, but he deserves to do so much more.  I think Troy needs to leave Baltimore personally.  With Joe Flacco on the scene, I don't believe Troy will do anything more than be a wildcat performer.  He has speed, he has pwoer, and he has accuracy.  Having done well in those three categories will make you a successful player, as he has proved himself to be.

Jake Delhomme is not starting material.  Let's just start off with that.  He has had one of the worst seasons that a former Super Bowl quarterback has had.  Delhomme has had a sensational career, don't get me wrong.  Having the third highest winning percentage out of any undrafted quarterback is a great statistic to add to your career.  He's not what he once was though.  No longer can he bomb the ball downfield, or be pin-point accurate.  He's going to miss recievers, he's going to throw interceptions.  Every quarterback does.  It's the way of football life.  He just can't seem to play anymore.  He's becoming another Daunte Culpepper.  Daunte was fantastic early in his career.  Now, it's hard for him not to throw an interception in the first quarter.  Same goes for Jake.  He was once a magnificant star, but has ever since fallen.  I honestly don't know what Carolina is going to do with him.  They owe him $20 million dollars, but he isn't worth a quarter of that.  Jake Delhomme has a bright future financially wise, but Carolina might be in for a rude awakening is so choosing to start him.

Here is the quarterback Carolina wants to start.  Matt Moore.  The future of this franchise in my mind.  So many Carolina fans were impressed with his skill.  Moore started when Delhomme got injured this past season.  He finished with a TD-INT ratio of 8-2, 1,053 passing yards, and a quarterback rating of 98.5.  This performance was put on by a superstar.  Matt Moore may or may not start for Carolina next year, mainly due to the fact that Delhomme still has to be payed twenty million dollars.  However, i'm sure many other teams are taking interest in Matt Moore.  Such teams may include Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland, Buffalo, Washington, Seattle, St. Louis, and even Denver.  With so many teams on the hunt for quarterbacks, it will be hard for any team to pass up Matt Moore.  Whether he will stay in Carolina or not is uncertain, but soon time will tell.

This post is the first of three on the topic.  I am getting tired, and there's still so much to cover. Here is a list of what the following blog posts will feature.

Part 2: The futures of: Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, Kyle Orton, Chad Pennington, Brett Favre, Bruce Gradkowsi, JaMarcus Russel, Michael Vick, Kevin Kolb, Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Bulger, and Jason Campbell.

Part 3: Quarterbacks coming to the NFL: Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Jevon Snead, Jake Locker, Tony Pike, and Juice Williams.

Stay tuned for more information tomorrow!
